Patient Information

A few things to know before you visit, so your appointment goes smoothly.

Before Your Visit: What to Bring

First, please bring:

  • Your photo ID and your insurance cards, both vision and medical.
  • Your current glasses and any contact lenses or lens boxes.
  • A list of your medicines and any eye drops you use.
  • Sunglasses, in case your eyes dilate.

Not sure which insurance applies? Then call (352) 399-5412 and we will check your benefits before you come in. You will find us at 2478 Burnsed Blvd, The Villages, FL 32163, in Pinellas Plaza near Powell Road. Because the location is golf-cart friendly, you can park close. Then plan to arrive a few minutes early to fill in any forms.

What Happens at Your Exam

Your visit starts with a few questions about your eyes, your health and how you use your vision day to day. Then we run tests, which can include the following.

  • Visual acuity, to see how sharp your vision is.
  • Keratometry and retinoscopy, to measure the curve of your eye and how it focuses light.
  • Intraocular pressure, which is the pressure inside the eye.
  • Refraction, to find your glasses prescription.
  • A slit lamp exam, a close look at the front and inside of your eye.

Dilation is used when it is needed, and Dr. Russell decides. After the tests, he will go over what he found and answer your questions before you leave.

Insurance and Payment

We accept Florida Blue, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Cigna, Humana and other plans. However, vision coverage and medical coverage can differ. For example, a routine exam and a visit for a medical eye problem may bill in different ways. So we check both before your visit.

We accept CareCredit for eyewear and care. Don't see your plan? Then call (352) 399-5412 and we will tell you what to expect.

See the full list on our insurance page.

Your Prescription Is Yours

After your exam you get a copy of your glasses prescription. If you are fitted for contact lenses, you get that prescription too once the fitting is complete. Federal rules say so.

You may fill them here, with our same-day contact lens service and on-site lab. However, you may also take them anywhere you choose, because you never have to buy from us.

Forms and Questions

Have a question about your visit, a form, or a past eye record? If so, call (352) 399-5412 or email TheVillages@HindSightEyeCare.com. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

If you have sudden flashes of light, a shower of new floaters, a curtain over your vision, sudden vision loss or a chemical in the eye, call (352) 399-5412 right away, or go to the nearest emergency room.
